GIPSY 4 EVER est le nouveau projet éclectique de Xavier Padilla, ancien bassiste-compositeur de Gipsy Kings. Le groupe comprend des musiciens de classe mondiale qui ont également joué avec les membres du groupe The Gipsy Kings, gagnant de plusieurs Grammy Awards et lauréats de Grammy Awards.

Encadré par Miles Copeland (l’ancien manager de Sting), GIPSY 4 EVER préserve le son et la tradition originaux de la Rumba camarguaise, le genre musical connu dans le monde entier par le biais des Gipsy Kings. En septembre 2016, il s'est produit le long de Jethro Tull à l'amphithéâtre romain de Plovdiv. En mai 2017, GIPSY 4 EVER a été présenté en tant qu'artiste invité exclusif de l'Ensemble russe Alexandrov, effectuant une tournée très réussie de 14 dates à travers la République tchèque, remplissant tous les grands stades de ce pays. En mai 2018, le groupe
tourne avec succès en Argentine. Certains membres de GIPSY 4
EVER ont contribué avec des compositions originales au catalogue historique de Gipsy Kings. Par conséquent, GIPSY 4 EVER est bien plus qu’un groupe hommage à GK, fait partie de son histoire.
Cette formation alternative de Rumba camarguaise couvre toutes les chansons classiques des Gipsy Kings avec une approche plus fraîche, permettant à ses joueurs époustouflants de jouir
d'une plus grande liberté instrumentale, accompagnés de leurs puissants chants gitans.

BIO XAVIER PADILLA

XAVIER PADILLA est né à Caracas, au Venezuela. Bassiste, compositeur et arrangeur, il a débuté à la fin des années 70 en tant que membre du groupe expérimental primé AUTANA, puis a coopéré avec des groupes locaux tels que Cuarteto de Música Creativa, Octano, Adrenalina Caribe, Salsa Silva et Guerra, La Típica Manía, Paraguas, Sangre Nueva et enfin avec le célèbre compositeur et chef national Aldemaro Romero. Xavier a grandi au sein de genres musicaux aussi divers que la musique folklorique afro vénézuélienne, le son cubain, le gaita, la salsa, le jazz, la fusion, le folk et le pop brésiliens, le jazz libre, le blues, le rock progressif, le jazz latino et le pop latin. Au début de sa carrière, il enregistra dans le premier album solo de GUACO (RICARDO HERNÁNDEZ). À ce moment-là, il avait déjà tourné - à 21 ans - avec la légendaire «Reine de la salsa», CELIA CRUZ.

Voulant élargir ses horizons musicaux, Xavier s'installa en Europe en 1988. Un bref séjour à Paris le conduisit en Allemagne, où il passa les cinq prochaines années à travailler de façon professionnelle avec différentes formations, rejoignant l'orchestre de salsa réputé CONEXIÓN LATINA, qui légendaire NICKY MARRERO sur timbales. Ce groupe a joué beaucoup de festivals de jazz à travers l'Europe. Ensuite, Xavier participe à divers enregistrements avec d’autres artistes, notamment SENTA BERGER (la prolifique actrice autrichienne présentée dans les premiers films de
James Bond), avec le célèbre saxophoniste Charles Mingus, CHARLIE MARIANO et le célèbre batteur belgo-italien BRUNO CASTELLUCCI (Premiata Forneria Marconi). Il y avait aussi d’autres projets et enregistrements, notamment le Latin Jazz Sunrise Orchestra du percussioniste Brunin Von Alten, le compositeur arrangeur
colombien Francisco Zumaqué, le groupe allemand acid rock Dunkelziffer et le compositeur pianiste Georg Pommer. Xavier a finalement rejoint l'Orchestre du Circus Roncalli jusqu'à son déménagement à Athènes, en Grèce, en 1994. Une fois dans le berceau historique de la civilisation occidentale, Xavier Padilla a commencé à faire des tournées et à enregistrer avec le groupe de disques PIX-LAX, revendeur de
disques Platinum. En même temps, il tourne et enregistre (deux albums) avec le chanteur-compositeur grec NIKOS PIPINELES et fait des sessions pour le très populaire chanteur VASILIS KARRAS. Xavier s'est très vite impliqué dans la scène jazz et pop athénienne, en formant le PALETTE TRIO et en jouant sur le TRIO de PANDELIS BENETATOS, ainsi qu'en freelance avec des musiciens grecs de renom tels que GIORGOS KONTRAFOURIS, VASILIS SALTIKIS, JOHNNY PAPADOPOULOS,
IANNIS STAVROPOULOS, le même auteur PIERRE GAlÉPIDÈS, NIKOS KAPILIDIS, MANDO STAMATOPOULOU, KOSTAS BALTAZANIS, SPYROS PANAGIOTOPOULOS, TAKIS PATERELIS, PETROS KOURTIS, DIMITRIS TSAKAS, YIOTIS SAMARA et YOSSIS SAMAS BELOS, entre
autres. Il a également joué avec le groupe latin populaire HASTA BANANA, de KAROLOS KAKARAS et GORGES MANDREKAS, et a accompagné le grand joueur de bouzouki grec THANASIS POLIKANDRIOTIS en représentation de la Grèce au Festival folk de Rotterdam en Hollande.
Après cinq années musicales intenses en Grèce, Xavier retourne en France et s'installe définitivement à Paris en 1997. Il commence bientôt à jouer et à enregistrer avec le pianiste-compositeur vénézuélien FRANKLIN LOZADA et son MADRUGADA FELIZ, puis rejoint le groupe CHAWORO d'ORLANDO POLEO pour une longue tournée. en France, en Afrique, en Grande-Bretagne, au Venezuela, en Turquie et à Tahiti, en plus de l'enregistrement, de la composition et de l'organisation de ce groupe.
Parallèlement, Xavier a joué en direct, enregistré et arrangé de la musique
pour ALFREDO «CUTUFLÁ» FRANCHESKI et son CHARANGA NUEVA, et a joué au hasard avec CAMILO AZUQUITA, YURI BUENAVENTURA, MARIO CANONGE, FRANKLIN VELOZ et AFRICANDO, entre autres.
En 2001, THE GIPSY KINGS a invité Xavier à occuper le poste de basse, ce qui lui a valu un intense travail d'écriture et de tournée mondiale avec le groupe de renommée internationale. Il est l'auteur de l'une des ballades les plus prisées de tous les temps, “Como Siento Yo”, que le chanteur Nicolas Reyes utilise actuellement comme sa “chanson préférée”.
À la place de THE GIPSY KINGS et de tous les artistes mentionnés ci-dessus, Xavier a arrangé, enregistré ou interprété avec d’autres noms internationaux tels que BERNARD LAVILLIERS, GAROU, TIT PUENTES, PATATO VALDÉS, MIGUEL «ANGÁ» DÍAZ, LUISITO QUINTERO, MININO
GARAY, KARIM ZIAD. , DANY BRILLANT, JULIA MIGENES, TITO ALLEN, MARCIA MARIA, MARIO CANONGE, JULIEN LOURAU, TAT MARENCO, MARIO REGIS, JEFF GARDNER, ALFREDO RODRÍGUEZ, TRIANA D’ALGER, MARIO REYES, MOKRANE, MOKRANE ACHEWI, , MALIK
BELLILI, FABRICE DELDONGO, SAMIRA BRAHMIA et le groupe français de rock progressif TAÏ PHONG. Xavier a coproduit avec Miles Copeland (l’ancien directeur-producteur de STING) un enregistrement du groupe GIPSY ROYALE.
Actuellement, Xavier Padilla dirige son propre groupe GIPSY 4 EVER.

GIPSY 4 EVER is the new eclectic project by Xavier Padilla, former Gipsy Kings’s bassist-composer. The novel 7 piece includes world class musicians who have performed too with the members of the multi Platinum selling and Grammy Award winner group The Gipsy Kings.

Mentored by Miles Copeland (Sting’s former manager), GIPSY 4 EVER preserves the original sound and tradition of Camarguese Rumba, the music genre made known to the world through the Gipsy Kings. In September 2016 it performed along Jethro Tull at the Plovdiv Roman Amphitheater. In May 2017, GIPSY 4 EVER was featured as the exclusive guest artist with the Russian Alexandrov Ensemble, doing a very successful 14-dates tour throughout the Czech Republic, filling all major stadiums of that country. In May 2018, the band successfully toured in Argentina.

Some of the GIPSY 4 EVER members have contributed with original compositions to the Gipsy Kings’s historical recorded catalogue. Therefore GIPSY 4 EVER is much more than a GK’s tribute band, is part of its history.

This alternative Camarguese Rumba formation covers all Gipsy Kings classic songs with a fresher approach, allowing its astounding players for more instrumental freedom, along their powerful gypsy chants.

As its mentor Miles Copeland says, “GIPSY 4 EVER is a Tesla ride, updating classics such as Bamboleo, Volare, Djobi Djoba and Como Siento Yo. Even the shyest audiences can’t resist being moved by songs that anyone in the world already owns by heart. More so when these are laid down by legitimate musical heirs and masters to the idiom.”

XAVIER PADILLA was born in Caracas, Venezuela. A bass player, composer and arranger he started in the late 70’s as a member of the award winning experimental group AUTANA, then cooperated with local groups such as Cuarteto de Música Creativa, Octano, Adrenalina Caribe, Salsa Silva y Guerra, la Típica Manía, Paraguas, Sangre Nueva and finally with the iconic national composer and conductor Aldemaro Romero. Xavier grew up inmersed in musical genres as diverse as Afro Venezuelan folk music, Cuban Son, Gaita, Salsa, Jazz, Fusion, Brazilian Folk and Pop, Free Jazz, Blues, Progressive Rock, Latin Jazz and Latin Pop. In the early years of his career he recorded in GUACO’s arranger (RICARDO HERNÁNDEZ) first solo album. By then he had already toured –at 21– with legendary « Queen of Salsa » CELIA CRUZ.

Aiming to expand his musical horizons, Xavier moved to Europe in 1988. A brief sojourn in Paris led him to a settle in Germany where he spent the next 5 years working professionally with different formations, joining the reputated salsa orchestra CONEXIÓN LATINA, which had the legendary NICKY MARRERO on timbales. That band played a great deal of jazz festivals throughout Europe. Then Xavier partcipate in various recordings with other artists, namely SENTA BERGER (the prolific Austrian actrice featured in early James Bond films), with Charles Mingus’s celebrated saxophonist CHARLIE MARIANO and reknown Belgian-Italian drummer BRUNO CASTELLUCCI (Premiata Forneria Marconi). There were also other projects and recordings, namely percussionist Brunin Von Alten’s Latin Jazz Sunrise Orchestra, Colombian composer-arranger Francisco Zumaqué various recordings, acid rock German group Dunkelziffer and pianist-composer Georg Pommer. Xavier eventually joined the Circus Roncalli Orchestra, until moving to Athens, Greece, in 1994.

Once in the historical cradle of Western civilization, Xavier Padilla started touring and recording with Platinum selling rock group PIX-LAX. Simultaneously, he toured and recorded (two albums) with Greek singer-composer NIKOS PIPINELES, and did sessions for the very popular singer VASILIS KARRAS. Xavier very soon got involved in the Athenian Jazz and pop scene, forming the PALETTE TRIO and playing on PANDELIS BENETATOS’s TRIO, as well as freelancing among prominent Greek musicians as GIORGOS KONTRAFOURIS, VASILIS SALTIKIS, JOHNNY PAPADOPOULOS, IANNIS STAVROPOULOS, STRATOS VOUGAS, JEAN-PIERRE GAlÉPIDÈS, NIKOS KAPILIDIS, MANDO STAMATOPOULOU, KOSTAS BALTAZANIS, SPYROS PANAGIOTOPOULOS, TAKIS PATERELIS, PETROS KOURTIS, DIMITRIS TSAKAS, YIOTIS SAMARAS and SERAFIM BELOS, among others. He also played with the popular Latin group HASTA BANANA, by KAROLOS KAKARAS and GORGES MANDREKAS, and traveled with the Greek bouzouki master player THANASIS POLIKANDRIOTIS in representation of Greece at the Rotterdam Folk Festival in Holland.

After 5 intense musical years in Greece, Xavier moved back to France, settling for good in Paris in 1997. There soon started playing and recording with Venezuelan pianist-composer FRANKLIN LOZADA and his MADRUGADA FELIZ, and joined ORLANDO POLEO’s group CHAWORO, for extensive touring in France, Africa, Great Britain, Venezuela, Turkey and Tahiti, besides recording, composing-arranging for that group as well. Simultanously, Xavier performed live, recorded and arranged music for ALFREDO « CUTUFLÁ » FRANCHESKI and his CHARANGA NUEVA, and gigged randomly with CAMILO AZUQUITA, YURI BUENAVENTURA, MARIO CANONGE, FRANKLIN VELOZ and AFRICANDO, among others.

In 2001 THE GIPSY KINGS invited Xavier to fill in the bass spot, which lead to an intense stint of writing and world touring with the internationally acclaimed group. He authored one of the most prized ballads they ever recorded, « Como Siento Yo », which Nicolas Reyes, lead singer of the band uses present as his « favorite song ».

Alternatively to THE GIPSY KINGS and all others artists above mentioned, Xavier either arranged, recorded or performed with other international names such as BERNARD LAVILLIERS, GAROU, TITO PUENTES, PATATO VALDÉS, MIGUEL « ANGÁ » DÍAZ, LUISITO QUINTERO, MININO GARAY, KARIM ZIAD, DANY BRILLANT, JULIA MIGENES, TITO ALLEN, MARCIA MARIA, MARIO CANONGE, JULIEN LOURAU, TATO MARENCO, MARIO REGIS, JEFF GARDNER, ALFREDO RODRÍGUEZ, TRIANA D’ALGER, MARIO REYES, MOKRANE ACHEWIQ, MALIK KERROUCHE, DANIEL STAVINSKY, MICKI MURPHY, MALIK BELLILI, FABRICE DELDONGO, SAMIRA BRAHMIA and French progressive rock group TAÏ PHONG. Xavier co-produced as MD with Miles Copeland (STING’S former manager-producer) a recording of the group GIPSY ROYALE.

Currently Xavier Padilla leads his own group GIPSY 4 EVER.
